Paperhex is a set of tiles for making simple fantasy maps, primarily for TTRPG hex-crawls. The art-style is minimalist, and inspired by the look of watercolor on textured paper.

As of December 7th, 2025, there are three sets of tiles.

Set One
includes most of the base tiles:
- Grassland, Sand, Sea, and Dirt base tiles
- 4x Pine Forest
- 9x Mountains
- 3x Lakes
- 4x Grassy Hills
- 1x Caves
- 2x Basic Settlements
- 7x Colored base tiles

Set Two is a supplemental set containing a few tiles for making your coast-lines and oceans more interesting:
- Whirlpool
- Sea monster tentacle
- Palm trees
- Desert Island
- Sharp rocks

Set Three is supplemental set containing desert themed tiles:
- Sand dunes
- Desert ruins
- Desert rocks
- Desert tent

Set Four is a supplemental set containing snow and tundra themed tiles:
- Snow and ice base tiles
- Tundra house and campfire
- Snowy mountain and trees
- Frozen lake
- Ice spire

My plan is to periodically create more tiles and add them to this set.

The tiles are formatted as individual PNGs sized to be compatible with the application Hex Kit, by Cone of Negative Energy.

These are beautiful ๐Ÿ˜ do you happen to have a background asset that matches the style of water color paper?

Thanks so much!

The water color paper texture was done with a couple of textures and parameters in the vector art software I use, Inkscape. It's an overlay that I mask to each tile. To be perfectly honest, I don't remember the exact parameters I used, since I tend to just copy the one I already made ๐Ÿ˜…

But I could probably make an "empty" tile with just the texture and a light parchment color add it into the next set.

Oh to clarify when I said background, I meant like the large tan colored paper to set the hexes on top of. Hopefully that explains it better ๐Ÿ˜… I didn't mean the background for the hexes.

Ah, yeah I see what you mean. Would have to think about the best way to do that, but I could probably bundle that with the next set as well
